In an effort to support agricultural development programs in Indonesia, the Agency over the years has been trying to improve the quality of the performance in the prevention and further spread of quarantine pests and diseases both of animals and plants, can run optimally. Assessment and evaluation of quarantine policies has been being implemented along with the development of international trade in agricultural commodities. In the framework of internal consolidation to improve the quality of the performance of the Agency, it needs to be done a Regional Technical Meeting. The results of the consolidation will be poured in budgeting activities both in the level of headquarters and technical operational units in order to smoothen the movement towards better performance of the Agency.
The event was a follow-up of the National Technical Meeting on August in Surabaya which was attended by 24 UPT under the Agency in the western region. The purpose of the event among others, was to follow up on the summary of specific problems reflected in the 6 pillars of revitalization program of the Agency for Agricultural Quarantine which faced by the operational units based on islands, to provide facilities for units’ desire to improve the quality of agricultural quarantine services, and for discussing and finalizing activities either at headquarters or operational units in Fiscal Year 2010. In the meeting, the discussion did not identify the problem and not just produce the formula, but directly focused on the solution of technical problem, as mandated in the previous technical meeting. Resolution of operational problems in the field would be conducted by technical centers based on the appropriate authority in form of guidance, technical assistance, and availability of technical and operational guidelines that could be implemented by the technical staff of quarantine. In his speech, the Director-General stressed that the quality of the resulting guidelines should really be implemented in the field and quarantine requirements which had a scientific base should also be implemented in the field language, as well as an increase in capacity building, infrastructure and management.
